Time for Three

Saturday, March 10, 2012 8:00 PM, Church of the Good Shepherd

Time for ThreeThe groundbreaking, category-shattering trio Time for Three transcends traditional classification, with elements of classical, country western, gypsy and jazz idioms forming a blend all its own. The members — Zachary (Zach) De Pue, violin; Nicolas (Nick) Kendall, violin; and Ranaan Meyer, double bass — carry a passion for improvisation, composing and arranging, all prime elements of the ensemble’s playing.

What started as a trio of musicians who played together for fun while students at Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute for Music evolved into Time for Three, or Tf3 for short — a charismatic ensemble with a reputation for limitless enthusiasm and no musical boundaries. Violinists Zachary De Pue and Nicolas Kendall first discovered their mutual love of fiddling in the country western and bluegrass styles. Then bassist Ranaan Meyer introduced them to his deep roots in jazz and improvisation. After considerable experimentation, the three officially formed Tf3.

At Cathedral Arts, our vision is for every child to have access to a well-rounded, arts-rich education that endows his or her spirit with the imagination, self-confidence and strength of character that inspires great leadershipand a will to succeed. Cathedral Arts has over 1,000 students participating in afterschool classes at schools and community centers throughout Jacksonville. Our students receive twice-weekly instruction in visual arts (painting, drawing, and mixed media), drama (acting and playwriting), dance (ballroom, jazz, modern, ballet, and West African), and music (violin, band, percussion, and chorus).

Our program has proven itself to yield impressive results among our students year after year. For the past five years in a row, more than four out of every five students showed marked improvement in areas such as class participation, task completion, cooperative behavior and communication skills. Students in our program have also outperformed their peers at the district and state level on their FCATs.

Cathedral Arts Project has grown to become the largest provider of free, ongoing and standards-based instruction in the visual and performing arts for public elementary school students in Duval County. Cathedral Arts is funded in part by the City of Jacksonville, Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville, the State of Florida, Division of Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
