Featured Local Artist: Robert Leedy
Robert Leedy, watercolor
Robert Leedy, a Jacksonville native, is passionate about the medium of watercolor. As an artist, he works in other mediums as well but always seems to gravitate back to watercolor which, he believes, is really where his heart is: “Transparent watercolor is truly unique,” he says, “with its own set of characteristics and personalities. “
One thing that draws him to the medium is the sense of illumination that watercolor creates as a result of reflected light filtering through washes of color from the underlying white of the paper. That light is an important element in Leedy’s work that shows up in landscapes, architectural, abstract and figurative subjects. Leedy is also known for his strong use of bold color, loose, juicy washes and fluid style.
Leedy has past affiliations with Asociacón Acuarelistas de Puerto Rico, The Indiana Plein Air Painters’ Association and The Colorado Watercolor Society. He is a current member of The Georgia Watercolor Society and The National Watercolor Society. Robert Leedy’s work can be seen at Archway Gallery in Atlantic Beach as well as Southlight Gallery and Studio 121 – both in Jacksonville, Florida.
