About the Riverside Fine Arts Association
Mission
The Riverside Fine Arts Association seeks to enrich the spirit and enhance the quality of life for our community through direct experience of artistic expression.
Purpose
The association shall act as a presenter and producer of musical programs to be performed in the facilities of The Church of the Good Shepherd and other appropriate venues. These programs will be classical and cross-cultural in nature featuring various choral groups, chamber ensembles, and vocal or instrumental soloists. Performances will include outstanding national and international guest artists and musicians of the highest caliber. Efforts will be made to utilize the Church of the Good Shepherd's E. M. Skinner organ, to incorporate a visual arts component, and to provide outreach to students and under-served individuals and groups.
History
The Riverside Fine Arts Association was created in 1993 as an outreach ministry of The Church of the Good Shepherd in the Riverside section of Jacksonville, Florida. Its founding was coincident with the church's restoration of their E.M. Skinner organ. The Good Shepherd Concert Series, as it was first called, offered a unique opportunity for cultural enrichment to the Riverside community and beyond. Since its inception, RFAA has grown from a small, neighborhood concert series to a non-sectarian organization that serves the area encompassed by northeast Florida. Over 100,000 attendees have benefited from its concerts and outreach programs over the last twelve years.
In addition to the regular concert program, RFAA has taken over the popular organ recital series from the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. It utilizes the historically significant Casavant organ at Jacoby Hall in the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts. Traditionally, three of the organ concerts take place in Jacoby Hall, and one is given at the Church of the Good Shepherd on its restored E. M. Skinner organ.
